Behavioral Competency Interviewing
You are already asking the obvious interview questions to check for each job applicant's ability to meet the short-term work requirements. Previous job duties and formal education or certifications are good indicators of "hit the ground running" capabilities.
Because employee retention is so important, use this tool to identify the job-related Behavioral Competencies, that you should ask behavior-based interview questions about, to detect how well each applicant is likely to "perform over time."
Work with your KEi Employee Retention Specialist to determine if it makes economic sense to combine the online screening question feature of this tool with the online attitude/behavior questionnaire(s) best suited to each job category in your company.
Since consistency is essential, this tool makes it possible for each and every interviewer in your company to use one common reliable interviewing and recordkeeping process.
Human Resources staff must be instructed to appropriately:
- Lead the behavioral competency analysis process for each job category
- Distribute and collect interview content packets from interviewing team members
- Establish and maintain central database for the behavioral competencies of all jobs
TOOL FEATURES
Create interview content…this feature allows a team of decision makers, with first-hand knowledge of the work, to conduct a competency analysis that determines the 5 to 8 highest priority behavioral competencies for the job category. It then provides the actual interview questions to ask in the applicant interview to probe for proof of previous success applying each competency.
Change interview questions…this feature allows the administrator to select specific interview questions from among the four questions that this tool provides for each behavioral competency.
Print interview questions…this feature allows the administrator to print a hard copy of a customized interview packet for manual distribution to each member of the interview team. It also provides the option to e-mail the packet to the interviewers.
Administer online screening questions…this feature allows the administrator to obtain an online response, from the job applicant, to one interview question from each of three behavioral competencies. When these early stage responses are unacceptable, the time and expense for a face-to-face interview can be eliminated.
Applicant log…this feature permits the administrator to review all online screening questions completed by applicants over the previous 12 month time frame.
