If you intend your business to endure the test of time, the way that you approach "your purpose as an employer" matters a lot.
The mission of an "employer" is to achieve business success by practicing values that shape individual lives through the powerful influence of employment experiences. Supervisors and managers bear the responsibility to make this happen, so employers must provide them the tools for meeting this responsibility.
This "Employer Mission Statement" is about how and who you hire, how you treat them, and the organization's values as an employer. It is about making sure that the Values for Employing™ are communicated to your employees and consistently implemented throughout your organization. It is about the total employment package that goes beyond salary and traditional benefits.
Tool #s 5, 9, & 10 in KEi's 14 tool system fall under the Attitude category:
Tool #5, Supervisor/Employee Partnering addresses the question, "are your supervisors the reason your employees stay or the reason they leave?"
The number one factor influencing employees' decisions to stay with their employer is their relationship with their immediate supervisor. Because of this you have to make certain that your supervisors consistently demonstrate Values for Employing™. Employing Values are different from your overall business values. They relate specifically to the way you and the supervisors of your organization deal with employees.
KEi has developed this tool to assist your organization in identifying the supervisory behaviors, skills and attitudes that are consistent with KEi's Values for Employing™ to ensure that your supervisors are helping - not hindering - the employee turnover situation.
Tool #9, Turnover Vulnerability Analysis reveals the most likely causes of your high turnover and points you in the best corrective action direction.
Many employers make the mistake of focusing on why employees leave when it is more effective to focus on why they stay. People are likely to stay where they feel they can be successful performing their jobs. This Analysis tool verifies the things that employees need most for job success and rates how satisfied they are with the employers ability to provide these things.
Employees are assured that their input is collected in confidence and that their employer will never receive access to individual employee input.
Tool #10, Interactive Employment Policies helps make sure that your employees are continuously receiving the messages contained within the Values for Employing™ through each employment policy that applies to their specific organizational role.
Employment policies tell employees exactly how the employer intends to treat them and what "rules" they are expected to follow. It is important that employees understand these policies to ensure their agreement. This tool is an interactive way to do this. To achieve optimum employee understanding, each policy is written using sixth-grade level words, sentences and paragraphs.
Version #1 is used for training employees to evaluate situations that might occur and teaches the implications of at least three different interpretations of the policy.
Version #2 gives employees specific instructions for real situations in which the employee must take immediate action.
Each policy developed by KEi is connected to one or more of the Values for Employing™ that are recommended for employers to adopt. Each policy is also customized to best fit the employer's work culture.
Remember, your company's Attitude for Employing includes a need to evaluate which jobs you should be employing and which should be outsourced. Successful companies have realized the advantages of outsourcing those work duties which are outside their core competencies.
Outsourcing certain operations allows you to focus your resources and personnel on core skill areas. The process of outsourcing to a third party that specializes in certain functions can result in superior performance and the release of capital that can be redirected to your core competencies.
A KEi Employee Retention Specialist can assist you in evaluating which facets of your business constitute core competencies and which play minor parts in differentiating the company from your competitors.
